Don’t be fooled by the term ‘expert.’
It appears that there are support groups being set up by those who call themselves experts, and they may well be in their field, but are they estranged grandparents?
Before attending a support group I would suggest you ask yourself, what do I want out of joining a group and do your research.
Find out as much as you can about the person running the group.
Our groups are run by the real experts.
The only person who truly understands the living bereavement of estrangement, is a grandparent who finds themselves in this situation.
No certificate or qualification can replicate the reality of this particular loss.
There are literally hundreds of published work and articles on the subject, written by very clever people and although they can be useful for some, it is words on paper.
Support groups are where you find the true knowledge and understanding, rooms full of compassion and empathy.
They should also be member led, if you are a group leader listen to your members, ask them what they want to gain by attending a group.
Remember you have to walk in my shoes to fully understand.
