One big family.

When you are listening constantly to so many people going through so much sadness it is easy to forget that there are many families just doing what families should do, caring and loving each other and being thankful for all that family stands for.

Yesterday, for the 3rd year we hosted a concert of Words and Music the age range in the audience of a packed venue was 6 weeks to 101.

The choirs were also of different age ranges, grandchildren and grandparents, all coming together bringing the generations together.

Families sat and listened to wonderful songs, music and poems. Poems with a very special meaning for those of us who read them. You might have noticed a pause, a silent tear but the words all had a meaning very personal to us.

The talent of the young people from Ivy Arts Theatre School was extraordinary, their voices raised the roof and everyones spirits. The younger members of the choir beamed as they sang and I will never forget their tribute to Les Mis, so moving.

The Bristol Ladies Choir, for the 3rd year running sang out with their usual enthusiasm, and as for the piano playing of Christopher Northam just wonderful.

A concert such as these do not just happen, it takes months of preparation by everyone involved and at BGSG  are eternally grateful.

Being estranged from a family member is so isolating, being able to bring people together for this event is not about fund raising but about showing how valued each and everyone is, whatever their circumstances they have a place in this world, they all are unique people. We will never know why others have chosen to inflict such heartbreak, but we can rejoice in the company of others and be thankful for all that is good in our lives.

As hundreds of people left, without exception, they were all smiling and laughing, money can’t buy that. It is priceless.

So thank you so much, if you were in the audience, grandparents helping or performers, you all are amazing and it is such a privilege to know you all.
