The greatest gift of all…….

As you all know for 12 years now we have our ‘Tree of Hope” in our garden at Christmas time, and as I have said before it is a real privilege to write out or print out the wonderful messages from grandparents who only have one wish for Christmas.

Every year I shed more than a tear, as I share in this act of love.

This year I am going to share a few of these wonderful messages.

I have changed or removed names.

Please take a moment to read them.

Dear H and H

A Candle in our Window.
There’s a candle in our window to shine a light for you,
To let you know that Granny and Pa are thinking of you
At Christmas it’s a special time of merriment and cheer
We wish out lovely Grandchildren could spend it with us here
We miss you more than ever and we are sure that you will know
That we will always love you however old we grow.
Granny and Pa.
Dear N ,M and C
This is the second year that you have had a message from me put on a very special Christmas tree. It’s called the tree of hope. As there are three of you, I am hoping for three things.
My first hope, is that you all have a wonderfully happy Christmas.
My second hope, is that one day we can be together again.
My third hope, is that you know how much I love you and miss you. (Never ever doubt that, my darlings).
Love and cuddles and kisses Nana X X X
If ever there is a
Tomorrow when we’re
Not together, there is
Something you must
Always remember… You
Are braver than you
Believe, stronger than
You seem, smarter than
You think, and loved more
Than you could ever know.Until we are together again.
All my love and more, Nanny

Dearest J,
A third Christmas without you.
You are a much loved son, grandson, great-grandson, nephew and cousin. We all miss you very much and hope and pray that you will soon be allowed to be part of our loving family again. We are looking after your daddy and he is doing all he can to bring you back into our lives. We love you lots xxx
We pray to see you again everyday
We never give up hope of seeing you again everyday.
It will be lonely this Christmas
It will be sad and blue
For no matter what gifts I get
I will still be without you both.
Dearest I and R.
This year my Christmas message is slightly different as for the first year since we last saw each other, we were able to chat on WhatsApp with you and Mum and Dad. I was so proud and happy to see what lovely and sociable young people you’ve grown into. I was wonderful to hear you call me Nanny again hear you talk about some of the same things I remember too from when you were little!
You have such busy and active lives and I want you to know that I’m always here for you and hope that we can build on those memories and maybe make some new ones in 2023! We think of you and talk about you every day and hope that you’re both looking forward to Christmas. With all our love to you both,
Nanny and P. xxx

To OUR Special Angels,

Wishing you the best Christmas ever,I hope it is as special as you are darlings.

Grandpa and I miss and think of you both every single day.

We will be putting up our tree this week and the Angels we bought with your names on them will be hung on there where we can see you both and share Christmas together.

We love you both more than words can say.

Our beautiful Grandsons… Happy Christmas… hopefully see you one day very soon.

Nanna D and Grandpa.

Christmas is nearly upon us all, and as I wrote last time, it is a very hard time for so many people.
People who have experienced loss.
We need to say that it is OK to not look forward to Christmas, we don’t all have to put on a brave face and pretend.
What we do need to do though, is to be kind to ourselves, treat ourselves as we would a friend in need.
