There is always Hope

I am sure that you have all been moved by the story that has been in the press this week about Alex Batty.

In 2017 he disappeared abroad after holidaying with his mother and grandfather, a little boy taken away from his much loved grandmother who had Special Guardianship for her grandson.

It is proof that grandchildren never forget their grandparents, whatever is going on in their lives. This was clear in the message he sent his grandmother,

I love you Grandma and I want to come home.

We have no idea what has actually happened to him over those lost years, and I hope he is given the privacy to come to terms with what has happened in his own time, with the continued love of his grandmother.

Sadly, Alex is one of many children who are abducted from a parent or caregiver.

It is clear that as soon as the children are old enough to make decisions for themselves they will find the family members they have been estranged from, often turning against the person who has kept them apart from family members, there are no winners in these scenarios ever.

As our ‘Tree of Hope” glistens brightly in our garden covered in wonderful loving messages from grandparents to grandchildren, it symbolises there is always light after dark.

Everyone here at Bristol Grandparents Support Group hopes that all of you will find some peace and light this Christmas, in the knowledge that your grandchildren never forget you. You are held in their hearts.
